Kitchen remodeling built by a licensed home builder
Big Hills Construction has been building homes in Western North Carolina since 2018, and the same crews that frame, wire and finish those houses run our kitchen remodels. That matters once walls come open. Moving a range, widening an opening into the dining room or picking up a sagging floor is structural work, and it goes faster and safer when the people doing it build houses for a living.
We work across Asheville and the surrounding towns, from 1950s ranch kitchens in West Asheville to full gut renovations in Biltmore Park, Arden and Fletcher. Every project starts the same way: we walk your kitchen, talk through how you actually use it, and put a written scope and price in front of you before anyone swings a hammer.
What a Big Hills kitchen remodel includes
- Design and layout. Working plans for the new kitchen, including appliance placement, clearances and traffic flow. We flag what the house will and will not allow before you fall in love with a layout.
- Demolition and disposal. Protected floors and doorways, dust control, and everything hauled off our own way.
- Structural changes. Removing or opening a load-bearing wall, adding a header, reinforcing floor framing for stone counters, correcting settled subfloor.
- Plumbing, electrical and HVAC. New supply and drain lines, dedicated circuits, code-required outlets and lighting, range hood venting to the outside.
- Cabinetry and countertops. Semi-custom and custom cabinets, template and fabrication for quartz, granite or butcher block, sinks and faucets set.
- Finishes. Flooring, tile backsplash, trim, paint, hardware, under-cabinet lighting and the punch list that actually gets finished.
- Permits and inspections. We pull the permits and meet the inspectors in Buncombe and Henderson County. You do not chase paperwork.
Layouts we work in most
Opening the kitchen to the living space
The most common request we get in Asheville is taking down the wall between a closed kitchen and the living or dining room. We check whether it carries load, size the header, and reroute anything running inside it. Done right, the ceiling stays flat and there is no bulkhead giving away where the wall used to be.
Adding a working island
An island needs clearance, power and often plumbing. We plan 42 to 48 inches of walkway around it, run the circuits the code requires, and build the base so the counter overhang is supported instead of cantilevered on hope.
Keeping the footprint, changing everything else
Not every kitchen needs walls moved. If the layout works, we replace cabinets, counters, flooring, lighting and appliances in place. Shorter timeline, smaller budget, and the kitchen still reads as new.
Materials and brands
We are not tied to a single supplier, which means we can build to your budget instead of a catalog. Typical selections on our kitchen projects include semi-custom cabinetry from regional lines, quartz from Cambria, Silestone or Caesarstone, granite and soapstone from local fabricators, and appliance packages from KitchenAid, Bosch, Cafe and Thermador. For flooring we run engineered white oak, refinishing of the existing solid hardwood where it is worth saving, and porcelain tile that stands up to a working kitchen.
You see the selection sheet with the allowance for each item before we order. If you upgrade something, you know what it costs that day, not at the end.
Timeline and budget
A cosmetic refresh with cabinets, counters and finishes usually runs three to five weeks on site. A full remodel that moves plumbing and takes out a wall is more often eight to twelve weeks, plus lead time on cabinets, which is the item that most often sets the calendar. We order long-lead materials before demolition so your kitchen is not sitting open waiting on a delivery.
Most Asheville kitchen remodels we build land between $35,000 and $90,000 depending on size, cabinetry and how much mechanical work is behind the walls. We give you a written number after the walk-through, not a range over the phone.

Frequently asked questions
How long does a kitchen remodel take in Asheville?
A cosmetic remodel that keeps the layout runs three to five weeks on site. A full remodel that moves plumbing or removes a wall usually takes eight to twelve weeks. Cabinet lead time is the biggest variable, so we order early and start demolition once the delivery date is locked.
What does a kitchen remodel cost here?
Most of the Asheville kitchens we build fall between $35,000 and $90,000. Size, cabinetry grade and how much plumbing or electrical has to move behind the walls drive the number. You get a written line-item estimate after the walk-through.
Do you handle permits and inspections?
Yes. We pull the permits and meet inspectors in Buncombe, Henderson and surrounding counties. Structural changes, new circuits and relocated plumbing all get inspected, and that paperwork is our job, not yours.
Can we stay in the house during the remodel?
Most homeowners do. We seal the work area, control dust, and can set up a temporary prep station with the fridge and microwave elsewhere in the house. Plan on being without a working kitchen sink and range for the duration.
Can you remove the wall between the kitchen and living room?
Usually yes. We check whether it carries load, size and install the header, and reroute any wiring, plumbing or ductwork inside it. The finished ceiling stays flat - no bulkhead marking where the wall was.
Do you offer a warranty?
Every remodel carries a two-year workmanship warranty, the same one we put behind the homes we build from the ground up. Manufacturer warranties on appliances, cabinets and counters pass through to you.
