A door that sticks is usually an install problem
Most of the failing entry doors we replace were not bad doors. They were set out of plumb in an opening that had settled, shimmed at two points instead of five, and sealed with caulk instead of flashing. Then the threshold took water, the sill rotted, and the door started dragging in humid weather.
We reset openings square, install a sill pan under every exterior door, flash the head, insulate the perimeter properly and adjust the hardware after the trim goes on. It is unglamorous work and it is the entire difference between a door that lasts and one that does not.

Choosing an exterior door
Fiberglass handles Western NC sun and rain without warping, takes a wood-grain finish, and insulates better than steel. Steel costs less and is tough, but dents stay dented and any coating scratch on a west-facing door will show rust. Wood is the best-looking option and needs a covered entry and a refinishing schedule to stay that way. If your door faces weather with no overhang, we will push you toward fiberglass.

Yes. Widening an interior opening to a 32- or 36-inch clear width is straightforward on a non-load-bearing wall and needs a header on a bearing wall. We confirm which one it is first.
