When refacing is the smart money
If the layout works and the boxes are solid, replacing cabinets buys you very little. Refacing keeps the carcasses and replaces everything you see and touch: doors, drawer fronts, hinges, glides and the exposed veneer. The kitchen reads as new, the job takes about a week, and it costs roughly half of a cabinet replacement.
Refacing is the wrong answer when boxes are particleboard that has swollen at the sink, when the layout needs to change, or when you want deeper drawers where fixed shelves are now. We check that before quoting instead of after.

What it does not fix
Refacing does not change the footprint, does not add cabinets, and does not repair a base run that is sagging or water damaged. If we find swollen bottoms under the sink, we replace that box and reface the rest – a common and reasonable mix.

Is refacing worth it, or should I replace?

Can you reface laminate cabinets?
Usually yes, if the boxes themselves are sound. The veneer bonds to a properly prepared laminate face frame. Boxes that are already delaminating are not candidates.
