The bathroom two people use at the same time

A primary bath fails on circulation before it fails on finishes. Two people at one vanity, a door that swings into the shower, a toilet you can see from the bed. Most of what we change in an Asheville primary bath is where things sit, not what they are made of.

What we build

  • Double vanities. Sized so two sinks actually work, with the outlets and lighting the current code requires.
  • Tile showers. Full waterproof membrane, niches and a bench framed in, curbless or low curb where the floor allows.
  • Freestanding and drop-in tubs. Floor framing checked for the filled weight, filler plumbing planned before tile.
  • Water closets. A separate toilet compartment where the room can give up the square footage.
  • Storage. Linen towers, recessed medicine cabinets, drawer banks instead of open cabinet space.
  • Comfort. Heated tile floor, humidity-sensing fan, dimmable lighting on separate circuits.

Budget honestly

The three items that move a master bath budget are moving plumbing, tile detail and glass. Keeping the toilet and shower drain where they are saves several thousand dollars. Large-format tile with minimal grout lines costs more to set than 12-inch tile. Frameless glass costs two to three times framed. We price these separately so you can choose where the money goes.

We work in Asheville, Hendersonville, Arden, Candler, Fletcher, Weaverville, Black Mountain, Mills River, Brevard and Waynesville.

Frequently asked questions

What does a master bathroom remodel cost?

Typically $28,000 to $70,000 in the Asheville area. Moving plumbing, tile detail and frameless glass are the three items that move the number the most.

How long does it take?

Four to six weeks on site for a full gut, plus material lead time. Custom vanities and glass are usually what set the start date.

Should we keep the tub?

If it is the only tub in the house, keep one somewhere. In a primary bath where the tub never gets used, converting the space to a larger shower and more storage is almost always the better use of the square footage.

Can we add a heated floor?

Yes, electric mat under tile with its own thermostat. It adds a modest amount to the project and is the upgrade clients mention most afterward.
