Most people call us after a fall or a hospital discharge, when the change has to happen in weeks. It is a better project when it happens before that. An accessible bathroom does not have to read as medical – a curbless shower, a bench, a handheld on a slide bar and well-placed bars look like a current bathroom and happen to work for a walker.
What we build in
- Curbless shower entry. Pan recessed into the framing, linear drain, no lip to step over or roll over.
- Blocking for grab bars. Solid backing behind the tile everywhere bars might go, so they can be added later without opening walls.
- Wider doorways. Reframed to 32 or 36 inches clear, with swing changed or a pocket door where the wall allows.
- Turning and approach space. Clear floor at the toilet and sink, vanity with knee clearance where a seated approach is needed.
- Fixtures. Comfort-height toilet, lever handles, anti-scald valve, handheld shower, bench or fold-down seat.
- Floor and light. Slip-resistant tile, brighter even lighting, night lighting at the floor.
Phased if you want
Not everyone needs everything now. A common approach is a full curbless shower and blocking today, with bars, a seat and a handheld added as they are needed. Building the structure once is what makes the later steps cheap.

What does an accessible bathroom remodel cost?

Can any bathroom be made curbless?
Most, but it depends on the floor framing. Recessing the pan is straightforward over a crawlspace and harder over a finished ceiling. We confirm at the walk-through, before you commit.
Do grab bars have to go in now?
No, but the blocking does. Solid backing behind the tile costs almost nothing during construction and saves tearing out tile later. We photograph where it sits so bars can be placed exactly.
Will it look like a hospital bathroom?
Not the way we build it. Current bar designs double as towel bars, benches are tiled to match, and a curbless shower reads as a design choice rather than an accommodation.
