Hardie’s warranty depends on install details that a fast crew skips: 6 inches of clearance to grade, 1 inch to roof surfaces, 2 inches to decking, proper joint flashing behind butt joints, no face nailing where blind nailing is specified, and a weather-resistive barrier behind it all. We install to those numbers, and we flash windows and roof-to-wall junctions with kick-outs so water leaves the wall instead of entering it.

Yes, and it is a warranty condition. Where grade is too high we either regrade or use a starter detail that keeps the board off the dirt. Buried siding wicks water and fails.
