The middle ground between wood and fiber cement
Engineered wood siding is wood strands bonded with resin and treated against moisture and termites. It looks closer to real wood than fiber cement does, comes in long lengths that cut down on butt joints, and installs faster because it is lighter. On large gable elevations that difference in labor shows up in the price.
The trade-off is that it is still a wood product. It needs the same clearances, the same flashing and a maintained paint film. Where it is installed correctly it performs for decades; where the bottom edge sits in wet mulch it does not.

How we install it
Weather-resistive barrier lapped correctly, flashing at every window head and sill, kick-out flashing at roof-to-wall junctions, and the manufacturer’s clearances at grade, roof and deck surfaces. Cut ends sealed before installation – the detail most often skipped and the one that decides how the bottom course ages.

Frequently asked questions
How does engineered wood compare to Hardie?
It costs less installed, looks more like real wood and goes up faster. Fiber cement is more resistant to moisture and holds paint longer. Both perform well when flashed and kept off the ground.
Does it need painting?
It comes primed or prefinished and needs repainting on a longer cycle than natural wood - typically ten to fifteen years depending on exposure.
Will woodpeckers or carpenter bees damage it?
Far less than natural wood or cedar, because the resin-treated strands are dense and unappealing. Fiber cement is the only fully immune option.
